Parkside achieves prestigious Stationers’ Company Innovation Excellence Award for recyclable freezer-proof paper packaging solution.

The winning pack, developed for frozen food giant Iceland’s North Coast range of frozen seafood, receives recognition in the highly competitive Product Design category. This award solidifies the status of the pack and the Recoflex™ paper material it is made with as game-changing innovations in the flexible packaging sector. These innovations provide compelling options for businesses seeking to align their packaging with the circular economy.

The design utilizes Recoflex paper material with a unique water-based coating. This coating acts as a moisture and grease barrier while preventing the formation of ice crystals on the pack exterior throughout the supply chain. As a result, the water and grease barriers remain intact in spite of the natural thawing and freezing process, making this the first fully functional paper-based freezable flexible packaging solution.

Celebrating the win, Mark Shaw, Technical Sales Manager at Parkside, stated: “We believe this innovation is truly revolutionary, and it is the culmination of years of hard work from everyone at Parkside. It wouldn’t have been possible without their dedication to turning these ideas into reality.

“We would like to express our gratitude to our customers, especially Iceland and North Coast, for their trust and commitment to recyclable packaging. Without their vision and collaboration, this innovation may never have come to fruition.”

The awards ceremony took place at the renowned, Grade I-listed Stationers’ Hall in London. After the award ceremony, the nominated innovations were showcased at the IEA 2023 exhibition, also hosted at the Hall.

Mark added, “Brands and the packaging industry can only drive sustainable change by working together. We are proud to be at the forefront of this movement, partnering with our customers to demonstrate the possibilities of flexible packaging.”

The Stationers’ Company, established in 1403, boasts over 600 years of history. The annual Innovation Excellence Awards attract entries from the communications, content, and print industries. These awards recognize excellence and innovation in product design, performance, and quality, making them highly prestigious within these sectors.
