Nestlé Spain is set to invest €15 million in its Girona factory, focusing on the development of food and beverage packaging with recyclable containers, specifically targeting Nescafé soluble coffee and Nescafé Dolce Gusto capsules.

This investment will enable the construction of advanced packaging lines designed for recyclable materials, thereby minimizing the reliance on virgin plastics. Additionally, the factory will implement energy-efficient machinery to enhance production efficiency. Furthermore, these new lines will incorporate cutting-edge technologies, facilitating a high degree of automation. The completion of this project is anticipated by the end of the year.

With the introduction of these lines, the Nestlé factory in Girona will begin producing the Nescafé refill bag, crafted from recyclable materials. By the end of 2025, the new line will support the production of various formats, ranging from 75 grams to 275 grams, for both Nescafé Classic and Decaffeinated varieties.

Moreover, Nestlé is establishing a new high-speed line for Nescafé sachets, which will enable the packaging of this product in recyclable monomaterial, enhancing its sustainability profile.

Arnau Pi, the director of the Nestlé factory in Girona, emphasized that this substantial investment in the Nescafé soluble coffee and Nescafé Dolce Gusto capsules production not only underscores a strong commitment to sustainability but also highlights Nestlé’s dedication to delivering high-quality products to consumers.

“The implementation of these new packaging lines will allow us to use recyclable materials, which is a significant step towards reducing virgin plastics and fostering a circular economy. At Nestlé, we believe that sustainable food is fundamental for the future, and we are committed to leading the way in this transformation,” he said.
