Mondi, a global leader in sustainable packaging and paper, has successfully completed a €125 million investment in the Kuopio containerboard mill. This substantial upgrade includes enhancements to the wood yard, fibre line, evaporation plant, and paper machine that produces ProVantage Powerflute®, a high-performance fluting mainly used in fresh fruit and vegetable trays and boxes.
This investment will boost production capacity by 55,000 tonnes annually, elevate product quality to better serve our customers, and enhance environmental performance by reducing greenhouse gas emissions per tonne of paper and improving resource and energy efficiency.
Today, Mondi Kuopio celebrated this achievement with an inauguration event attended by local politicians and partners, showcasing the collaborative efforts and shared vision of Mondi and its stakeholders in promoting economic growth and environmental responsibility.
Andrew King, CEO of Mondi Group, expressed his satisfaction, stating, “We are thrilled to mark the completion of this significant investment and the opportunity it provides us to continue delivering high-quality, sustainable products to our customers. This also signifies our dedication to supporting economic development in the region and securing the long-term sustainability of the Kuopio mill.”
Markus Gärtner, CEO of Mondi Corrugated Packaging, further emphasized Mondi’s commitment to sustainability, stating, “Mondi’s mission is to be sustainable by design, and investments like this reinforce our MAP2030 sustainability goals regarding circular-driven packaging and paper solutions, developed by empowered individuals taking action on climate. The local community will enjoy the benefits of a modernized mill, including safety enhancements and improved environmental performance.”
