Lehmann Ingredients is excited to announce its partnership with Xampla to deliver cutting-edge nutrient microencapsulation technology for food and beverage applications.
This collaboration will enhance Lehmann’s portfolio, providing FMCG brands and supply chain partners across the UK with innovative solutions for food and drink packaging.
Moreover, Xampla’s advanced nutrient microencapsulation technology will enable superior fortification of vitamin D in diverse food and beverage products by encapsulating the vitamin within a microscopic, digestible capsule crafted from plant proteins.
Xampla’s technology is versatile, working effectively with various fat-soluble and fat-suspendable active ingredients, and ensuring enteric release once these ingredients reach the digestive system.
Initially developed in partnership with global soft drinks leader Britvic, Xampla’s microencapsulation capsules significantly improve nutrient stability in liquids while protecting them from degradation due to UV light, pH fluctuations, and pasteurization processes.
As a result, Lehmann’s customers can now provide fortified products without incurring the high costs associated with vitamin overages, confident that Xampla’s microencapsulation enhances the stability and bioavailability of their active ingredients.
Founded in 1988, Lehmann Ingredients has established itself as a trusted supplier in the industrial manufacturing sector, collaborating with multinational food and drink manufacturers, including prominent producers of soft drinks and plant-based milks. Lehmann is the first distributor to partner with Xampla to incorporate this innovative technology.
Alexandra French, CEO at Xampla, stated: “Lehmann’s is rightly a highly trusted ingredient supplier, so we are really delighted to be working with them. This partnership is a ringing endorsement of our technology and a significant step forward in making it widely available.
“It’s a huge opportunity for brands that collaborate with Lehmann’s to offer fortified vitamins, delivering essential nutrients within the products consumers already cherish.”
Charlie Lehmann, Director at Lehmann Ingredients, added: “Through our supply partnerships, we can provide an extensive range of ingredients that meet manufacturers’ formulation needs. Xampla’s innovative encapsulation solution represents a thrilling addition to our portfolio.
“We believe consumers will be very pleased with the outcomes of Xampla’s technology, which facilitates delayed release within the digestive system after consumption.”
Supporting a healthy lifestyle remains a significant trend, as consumer research shows that over half (57%) of consumers prefer obtaining their vitamins from food and drink rather than supplements.
Additionally, beyond food and drink fortification, Xampla offers a diverse array of product applications, including sustainable plant polymer alternatives to some of the world’s most polluting plastics.
This launch coincides with a recent supply agreement announced by food packaging specialists Huhtamaki and manufacturer 2M Group of Companies, aimed at introducing Xampla’s plastic-free Morro™ Coating for takeaway boxes, replacing traditional plastic coatings.
