Jokey has unveiled an innovative packaging line focused on sustainability by utilizing recycled PET, specifically tailored for the food and beverage packaging, as well as pharmaceutical industries.
This new range features transparent containers produced through the injection stretch blow moulding (ISBM) process, which emphasizes the use of recycled materials. The design is predominantly made from post-consumer waste.
Based in North Rhine-Westphalia, packaging manufacturer Jokey is diversifying its offerings to include PET packaging created via the ISBM process. This new approach maximizes the proportion of recycled rPET plastic sourced from post-consumer waste collections.
“The ISBM process and the use of rPET meet our requirements for efficiency and sustainability, aligning with our goal of fostering a circular economy for plastic packaging,” says Mateusz Buliński, business development manager at Jokey Poland. Manufacturing for the new product line will take place at the Kędzierzyn-Koźle facility in Upper Silesia.
Initially, Jokey will offer blow jars (JBJs) that include corresponding closures, available in sizes from 150 to 300 milliliters. These transparent containers—often recognized as ketchup bottles, soap dispensers, or pill boxes—are widely utilized in the food and beverage packaging and pharmaceutical sectors. The ISBM process permits diverse customized shapes and designs, enhancing versatility. Notably, Jokey reports that material usage can be reduced by up to 15 percent when compared to traditional PET injection moulding, thereby further promoting resource efficiency.
In Europe, 5 million tonnes of PET were utilized for packaging in 2022. As reported by the European PET Association, Petcore, approximately three million tonnes were collected, representing a collection rate of 60 percent. Among this, a significant portion—2.8 million tonnes—consisted of bottles.
“With rPET-based PET packaging, we can meet the demand of existing customers while simultaneously tapping into new sales markets,” states Christof Kölschbach, CSO of the Jokey Group. The outstanding strength, lightweight nature, transparency, and recyclability of this packaging solution make it increasingly preferred in the industry. Furthermore, the market for PET packaging utilizing the ISBM process is experiencing robust growth on a global scale.
