The Coca-Cola Company in Hong Kong has launched the first “Recycle Bar” in the city in collaboration with City Plaza, to promote the benefits of recycling. Open from June 2-11, the event showcases over 30 pieces of bar furniture made out of 18,000 recycled PET bottles, demonstrating the possibilities of renewing used resources. The “Recycle Bar” is also an educational exhibition that aims to raise public awareness of how to recycle used resources, like plastic bottles, to minimise carbon footprint. Visitors to the event can recycle their used PET bottles for free beverages and souvenirs.
The event displays the process of PET recycling in a recycling facility that shows how used bottles can be transformed into brand-new beverage containers for new drinks by entering into a plastic recycling loop. One exciting feature of the “Recycle Bar” is the invitation for consumers to experience one of the recycling procedures by shredding PET bottles in the exhibition. It aims to provide consumers with knowledge and experience in PET bottle recycling, and inspire the general public to adopt a sustainable lifestyle.
The furniture displayed at the “Recycle Bar” is made up of locally produced bar counters, stools, tables, and chairs. After the event, the furniture will be reused at a “Recycling Academy” experience center, which is part of The Coca-Cola Company’s public education efforts to promote proper resource recycling.
The “Recycle Bar” exhibition also displays a collection of recycled PET accessories from the US, China, and Hong Kong markets, showcasing what can be achieved if the society works together to recycle PET bottles. The event aims to inspire Hong Kong consumers to be more accountable for their recycling habits and become more aware of the benefits of proper resource recycling.
Marella Canepa Risso, Franchise Operations Director, Hong Kong and Macau, The Coca-Cola Company, said “In addressing environmental issues, we believe everyone should be accounted for and be accountable. Through public displays like Recycle Bar, as well as other roadshows and workshops that provide consumers with knowledge and experience in PET bottle recycling, we invite Hong Kong people to get inspired through seeing how used PET bottles can be given a new life – again and again – if returned and recycled properly”.
Bonaqua Mineralized Water, produced by The Coca-Cola Company, already uses 100 percent recycled PET in bottles 52.8% lighter than conventional PET bottles. In addition, the Hong Kong and Taiwan markets have launched label-less bottles, which further reduces plastic use and increases bottles’ recyclability. This event echoes Bonaqua’s commitment to sustainable solutions, encouraging consumers to adopt a sustainable lifestyle and helping to build a world without waste.
