SÜDPACK is at the forefront of film solutions for various industries, particularly in sustainable food and drink packaging. Showcasing their innovations at IFFA in Frankfurt, the MULTIVAC Group will present three concepts tailored specifically for the meat processing sector. Industry professionals are invited to visit booth A41 in Hall 12.1 to discover how efficient, recyclable mono-structures are seamlessly processed on thermoforming packaging machines, tray sealers, and flowpackers, all while maintaining the high performance and reliability found in traditional composite materials.
Preferred polymers, including PP, PE, and PET, are crucial for food and drink sustainable packaging, meeting stringent recyclability standards while ensuring material efficiency. However, these specific structures can be more challenging to process compared to conventional composites. Through years of collaboration, MULTIVAC and SÜDPACK guarantee that these advanced packaging materials are reliably compatible with standard packaging machinery.
Sustainable packaging for raw ham slices
A key highlight at the MULTIVAC booth is a cutting-edge slicing line designed for raw ham products. This line will utilize SÜDPACK’s new Peel PET floatable film as the peelable lidding film for thermoforming and modified-atmosphere packaging, providing a sustainable alternative. During recycling, the lightweight top webs, which bond securely to mono-APET trays, can be easily separated from the APET bottom webs, facilitating pure-grade recycling and proper sorting into dedicated material streams. Furthermore, this ultra-thin lidding film excels in packaging reliability, sealing effectively to PET trays, even when fatty contaminants are present. It removes cleanly without tearing and remains flat when opened. Its high oxygen barrier maximizes product protection, and the integrated antifog features keep the lidding film transparent.
Sustainable packaging for fresh meat in trays
For packaging minute steaks in mono-PP trays using the TX 620 tray sealer—a key component of a high-performance meat portioning line—a PP-based lidding film from SÜDPACK’s Pure-Line ensures that the entire packaging system is recyclable and aligns with existing recycling streams. Weighing only 60 μm, this film reduces overall packaging weight while still providing maximum stability. Its peelability enhances consumer convenience significantly.
Sustainable packaging for ground meat
Once scrutinized, “ground meat in a pouch” is now an accepted standard—this lightweight pouch packaging is designed specifically for fresh ground meat. At the show, MULTIVAC will present this highly material-efficient concept with a high-performance ground meat packaging line utilizing the W 510 flowpacker, which will also process PP-based flow pack films from SÜDPACK’s popular Pure-Line range—optimized for efficient processing at high output rates. Despite its minimal thickness of just 60 μm, this pouch packaging provides product protection comparable to traditional tray solutions while achieving material savings of up to 60 percent, significantly lowering the carbon footprint.
