Domino Printing Sciences (Domino), a global leader in advanced variable data printing solutions, has collaborated with Erdinger in Germany to deploy its innovative Dx1060i 100W CO₂ laser coder. This partnership signifies a significant advancement in Domino’s commitment to creating high-power laser coding solutions tailored for intricate, high-speed beverage manufacturing.

Established in 1886, Erdinger—the world’s largest wheat beer brewery—processes an impressive 165,000 bottles each hour at its facility in Erding, Bavaria. With over three decades of experience using Domino’s laser marking technology, Erdinger applies production and traceability information to its iconic beer labels. As both line speeds and export demands have escalated, Erdinger engaged in close collaboration with Domino to find a sophisticated solution capable of managing more complex coding requirements without compromising quality.

Each brewery filling line operates at speeds of up to 60,000 bottles per hour, employing laser-printed codes on metallized labels under an automated, centralized ERP system. This intricate process necessitates high energy levels and precise beam control. When export conditions necessitated a transition from two-line to three-line codes, the complexity surged, prompting the upgrade from a 60-watt D-Series laser coder to Domino’s cutting-edge 100-watt Dx1060i.

“Domino managed the entire integration with our ERP system seamlessly. Replacing the printer on the production line was truly plug-and-play,” stated Erdinger’s maintenance specialist. “We were particularly impressed by the proactive support, and its remote diagnostics team was able to resolve any issues before they even became a problem. Domino has always offered premium support, and that is one of the key reasons we rely on its laser systems.”

“In an environment where 165,000 bottles are filled each hour, it’s essential to minimize downtime and waste to protect the bottom line. This printer not only enables sharper coding but also reduces waste to nearly zero—supporting our sustainability goals simultaneously.”

The Dx1060i laser coder has consistently provided clear, durable codes and has integrated smoothly into Erdinger’s highly automated filling lines and central ERP system without requiring third-party intervention. These enhancements deliver greater flexibility, improved line efficiency, and a solid pathway for meeting future coding and compliance requirements.

“Working with Erdinger to integrate the Dx1060i in such a demanding production environment demonstrates the system’s capability and reliability at scale,” remarked Frauke Schroeder, Senior Product Manager – Laser at Domino. “It’s gratifying to see our technology supporting one of the world’s most respected breweries in achieving consistent quality and efficiency, and we take pride in continuing to meet the evolving needs of this valued long-term partner.”

Erdinger is actively investigating opportunities to extend the application of the Dx1060i across additional production lines while maintaining its productive collaboration with Domino for future initiatives.

The Dx1060i is a key component of Domino’s i-Techx generation of high-resolution laser coding systems. Designed to cater to the changing requirements of global manufacturers, it combines increased power, precision, and integration flexibility with long-term reliability and sustainability benefits. Powered by Domino’s advanced i-Techx electronics and user interface, this system represents the next evolution in intelligent, high-efficiency laser coding solutions.
