Green Cell Technologies® (GCT®) and RWH Holdings® (RWH®) have collaborated with several global brewers for 8 years to tackle the issue of what to do with their leftover Brewers Spent Grain (BSG) and Brewers Spent Yeast (BSY). BSG, which is highly nutritious and has protein and fiber, is usually wasted due to its inability to be transported or processed further into human-grade products. The conventional manufacturing of BSG involves drying and milling, which does not guarantee an increase in yield or nutrition, digestibility, or microbial cleanliness. However, Disruptor® technology has been used to process BSG through a non-chemical process, Dynamic Cellular Disruption® (DCD®), to open over 99% of cell structures of the BSG waste mass. This results in an increase in available nutrition and bioavailability, a reduction in particle size and waste, improved microbial cleanliness, and higher yield and nutrition. DCD and Disruptor technology have been proven to extract valuable molecules from the source material more efficiently, enhancing the yield of beer manufacture without the use of mash tuns and reducing associated costs. Additionally, BSG can be processed to create value-added by-products, opening up new revenue streams for brewers.
