Amcor (NYSE: AMCR, ASX: AMC), a leader in food and drink packaging, proudly announces the launch of a groundbreaking turkey breast package for Butterball, LLC. The innovative Perflex® shrink bag design features an integrated handle, effectively reducing packaging material while enhancing operational efficiency.
Conventional turkey packaging relies on a net encircling the product to provide a robust carrying handle. By eliminating this extra packaging material, Amcor introduces a more convenient and sustainable packaging solution that appeals to environmentally conscious consumers.
When compared to the traditional netted turkey breast bag, the Amcor Perflex® handle bag offers remarkable benefits*:
- 22% reduction in carbon footprint
- 23% decrease in non-renewable primary energy demand
- 22% less water consumption
Moreover, the new Perflex® handle bag enhances efficiency by removing the manual netting process, streamlining production for food and drink sustainable packaging.
Amcor’s Catalyst™ collaborative innovation team worked intimately with Butterball to design and develop this packaging for their boneless turkey breast roast. Utilizing Catalyst™ rapid prototyping capabilities, the team produced multiple physical prototypes that were rigorously tested for functionality, strength, and consumer preference.
“Our ability to deliver the actual production specifications in prototype quantities allowed Butterball to gain authentic consumer feedback at each stage of the design,” explains Greta Shimon, marketing manager at Amcor.
“We were pleased that Amcor’s solution was compatible with our existing packaging equipment, enabling a seamless transition,” stated Valerie Saint Sing, senior brand manager for Butterball. “Consumers are continually seeking nutritious, easy-to-prepare protein options. Our boneless turkey breast roast is the perfect solution for a delicious, convenient meal. This sleek new packaging will undoubtedly enhance its shelf appeal.”
