Ahlstrom, a global leader in fiber-based specialty materials, has introduced GreenPod Home—a revolutionary solution for the coffee pod market that is officially certified by TÜV Austria as OK compost HOME. This innovative offering marks a significant advancement in food and drink sustainable packaging.
This certification guarantees that the GreenPod Home range can decompose and biodegrade under domestic conditions, ensuring no toxic residues or persistent microplastics remain. This enables converters and brand owners to design GreenPod solutions that are easily compostable at home, thus promoting eco-friendly food and drink packaging.
The GreenPod Home portfolio is compatible with all standard converting lines and is engineered for optimal brewing performance.
“Demand for sustainable alternatives drives innovation in coffee markets. Although Ahlstrom has previously offered industrially compostable solutions, this home compostable patented solution represents a significant milestone, reinforcing Ahlstrom’s reputation in biodegradable fiber-based solutions for coffee applications,” says Patrice Blanc, Head of R&D at Ahlstrom.
“Aligned with Ahlstrom’s sustainability goals and the anticipated stricter regulations in the food packaging sector, we are dedicated to establishing ourselves as the market reference in sustainability. We aim to offer our clients a comprehensive portfolio of heat-sealable and non-heat-sealable home compostable tea and coffee solutions,” states Philippe Sevoz, Vice President, Beverage and Casing.
