Valpak, a subsidiary of Reconomy, has unveiled an innovative Global Data Insights Platform aimed at assisting global brands and retailers in managing the growing complexity of international packaging regulations.

This new system consolidates packaging, component, and supplier information into one cohesive platform. By utilizing the world’s most extensive dataset for packaging and products, which features over 60 million SKUs, businesses can accurately verify their data with exceptional reliability. This enhanced transparency is crucial as multiple US states have enacted laws regarding Packaging Extended Producer Responsibility (pEPR), while the EU continues to implement stringent requirements through its Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).

Phillip Crum, Valpak’s director of Data Insights, notes that contemporary compliance has advanced beyond the mere submission of accurate data. He emphasizes that the true value now lies in leveraging this data to drive cost reductions and implement meaningful changes within organizations.

The platform provides the capability for companies to simulate global compliance expenses and evaluate the recyclability of their packaging, a key element as firms prepare for the forthcoming modulated fee structures.

The increasing regulatory demands are clearly reflected in the industry, with Valpak observing a more than 40% rise in inquiries about PPWR within just eight months. To tackle these challenges, the platform enables users to generate real-time reports on plastic usage, recycled materials, and source certification, tying these packaging choices directly to their Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) objectives.

Moreover, the platform promotes a collaborative approach throughout the value chain. By enhancing visibility into how individual suppliers impact the overall data and exposure to fees, businesses can identify specific opportunities for improvement. This data-centric methodology facilitates informed procurement decisions and encourages suppliers to address data deficiencies, ultimately aiding companies in minimizing penalties and enhancing the accuracy of their reporting.
