As part of a range of new small-scale mixing equipment, Silverson Machines are launching the FMX10, a small-scale powder/liquid mixer. This mixer bridges the gap between the laboratory scale FMX5 and the larger Flashmix product range. It provides a simple, effective and hygienic means of powder/liquid mixing on a small scale, with a batch size of up to 50 litres, depending on viscosity. Featuring the same pumping rotor design as the HV model, the FMX10 is able to process higher viscosity mixes, and the option of a high speed motor, capable of 9,000rpm, and Flameproof specification makes this model even more versatile.
In operation, the mixer recirculates liquid from the vessel and powder is loaded into the stainless steel hopper. Once the powder feed valve is opened, the powder is drawn into the high velocity liquid stream, with the ingredients coming into contact with each other just prior to the mixer’s high shear rotor/stator workhead. A brief period of recirculation results in an agglomerate-free, homogeneous dispersion in a matter of minutes. The standard powder feed hopper has a 5 litre capacity. Different designs are available to assist with the flow of more cohesive powders.
Being launched alongside the FMX10 is a range of small-scale In-Line mixers. These new mixers include the 150 UHS In-Line, which is designed for Ultra Hygienic applications, the 088/150 UHS, a small-scale Multistage In-Line mixer and the UHS-HV, a unit for mixing high viscosity products, as with the FMX10, each of these is suitable for batches of up to 50 litres, depending on viscosity , making them ideal for applications in the Pharmaceutical sector as well as other “clean” industries such as food and cosmetics. The entire range will make its debut at the PPMA show this year.
