Maple Donuts, a prominent US manufacturer of frozen bakery products, has been acquired by the local private-equity firm Swander Pace Capital.
While the financial terms of the deal remain undisclosed, this marks Swander Pace Capital’s 15th acquisition in the bakery sector. Partners Capital and Constitution Capital Partners joined as co-investors in this strategic transaction.
Founded in 1946 by the Burnside family, Maple Donuts specializes in producing private-label doughnuts, catering to retail and foodservice customers throughout the US.
The company provides both ready-to-sell and ready-to-finish products, enhancing its diverse offerings.
Luke Burnside, executive vice-president of sales at Maple Donuts, stated: “The Burnside family recognized the clear benefits that Swander Pace Capital’s resources and expertise can provide to help Maple Donuts continue its growth trajectory.”
He further emphasized that Swander Pace Capital’s deep understanding of the bakery industry and its proven experience with family-owned businesses make them the ideal partner for their future endeavors.
Burnside also highlighted the commitment to collaborate with Swander Pace Capital to “further expand” the product range and “enhance” production capabilities.
In a shared statement, Damian and Nathaniel Burnside, co-presidents at Maple Donuts, expressed their confidence: “As we transition the business, we are confident that Maple Donuts is in excellent hands for the next chapter with Swander Pace Capital.”
Swander Pace Capital, known for investing in “defensive” consumer staples within the food industry, has previously acquired several bakery businesses, including Boulangerie St. Méthode, Café Valley, and Bäckerhaus Veit.
Most recently, Café Valley, another asset under Swander Pace Capital, acquired Freed’s Bakery, which manufactures iced mini cupcakes for national and regional retailers.
Tyler Matlock, managing director at Swander Pace Capital, remarked: “We will continue to look for interesting investment opportunities within the bakery category to further establish Maple Donuts as a value-added partner to its customers.”
