Sweegen, a worldwide frontrunner in taste solutions aimed at health and wellness, has revealed the reappointment of seasoned professional Shari Mahon to its executive leadership as the chief commercial officer (CCO).

Mahon, who held the position of senior vice president of global innovation at Sweegen prior to her departure in 2022, is returning at a critical time for the company. Her joining signals a strategic transformation as the firm evolves from solely being a high-intensity sweetener provider to a fully integrated partner in taste solutions for some of the largest food and beverage manufacturers worldwide.

In her new position, Mahon will focus on reshaping the conventional vendor-client dynamic, aiming to implement a deep-technical integration model. Her key objective is to establish Sweegen as a partner in flavor creation, rather than just a supplier of ingredients.

“My goal is to ensure that Sweegen isn’t just seen as a provider of ingredients, but as a primary architect of taste,” Mahon affirmed. “We are moving beyond simple sugar reduction. We are entering an era of total taste modulation where we solve the complex sensory challenges that come with creating healthier, functional products.”

A fundamental aspect of Mahon’s strategy is enhancing Sweegen’s global network of Innovation Studios. By utilizing these regionally focused hubs in locations such as Mexico City, London, and Bangkok, she intends to significantly accelerate development timelines for manufacturers.

  • Localized flavors: adjusting global brand offerings to match regional taste preferences swiftly.
  • Regulatory guidance: simplifying market access for innovative ingredients like Brazzein.
  • Speedy commercialization: guaranteeing that new technologies transition from the laboratory to global supply networks without delay.

“The industry is advancing at an unprecedented pace, and our mission is to become the agile partner manufacturers need to stay ahead,” Mahon emphasized. “Our targets center on rapid and scalable commercialization.”

Mahon will spearhead the commercial initiatives for the Sweetensify platform, Sweegen’s latest toolset for flavor enhancement. This platform aims to elevate the mouthfeel and overall flavor profile of products containing natural sweeteners, which is vital for manufacturers striving to eliminate hidden sugars and artificial flavoring agents.

“We have the technology to make a zero-sugar product taste indistinguishable from full-sugar versions,” Mahon claimed. “Our commercial ambition is to make these solutions the industry standard. We aren’t just looking for incremental growth; we are looking to lead a fundamental transformation in how the world’s food is formulated.”

Mahon’s return is widely regarded as a significant advantage for Sweegen. During her previous role, she played a critical part in the successful introduction of Sweegen’s Signature Stevia and the expansion of precision fermentation techniques.

For food and beverage manufacturers, Mahon’s leadership signifies that Sweegen is intensifying its focus on becoming a technical powerhouse. Her distinct expertise, merging flavor science with commercial strategy, is anticipated to assist brands in overcoming the most challenging formulation issues in today’s health-conscious market.
