Lidl Ireland has announced an exciting new deal with Panelto Foods, a Longford-based bakery, valued at €22 million. The agreement will see their premium baked bread range showcased in Lidl stores across Ireland, with an additional export deal catering to over 950 Lidl stores throughout the UK. The partnership is expected to continue expanding globally with the help of Lidl International’s buying team.

Innovation Through Partnership

Panelto Foods has been a key supplier to Lidl’s bakery since opening their first bakery back in 2005. As their relationship has grown, so too has the product range originating from the Longford-based bakery. Lidl Ireland was the first country in the Lidl family to develop an in-store bakery and has now launched a premium range of freshly baked products labelled under their Deluxe own-brand banner. Customer insights and market research are utilised in the creation of this quality range of bread.

Land of Oats and Honey

Panelto’s bakery exclusively developed customer favourites for Lidl such as Sourdough Loaf, Rye Boule and the deliciously unique Irish Oat & Honey Loaf. The ingredients are locally-sourced and using traditional techniques including long fermentation and stone baking to ensure distinct flavour and texture. The Irish Oats & Honey Loaf has a delectable Irish oats and honey recipe providing a beautiful sweet taste that is a little different than what’s on the market.

The Future of Premium Bread

Garry Walsh, Commercial Director of Panelto Foods, expressed his satisfaction with the results of the 12-year partnership with Lidl. Panelto Foods is continuing to thrive thanks to their connection with Lidl, and this growth has provided employment opportunities for Longford’s local communities. Ciara Moran, Senior Buyer for Lidl Ireland and Northern Ireland, added to the discussion by stating that this partnership is yet another opportunity for Lidl to bring exceptional quality and affordable products to customers.

The deal between Lidl Ireland and Panelto Foods marks an exciting time in Irish food manufacturing. Lidl Ireland has set the standard by offering quality locally-sourced products and thriving in their partnerships with local businesses. Panelto Foods is only the latest business to see growth thanks to their relationship with Lidl Ireland. The future of both companies seems bright, and we look forward to seeing the fruits of their partnership as they continue to expand globally.
