Kingsbarn Distillery Increases Storage Capacity Through Significant Investment

Kingsbarn Distillery Increases Storage Capacity Through Significant Investment expands, Kingsbarn Distillery, major investment, storage capacity Food and Beverage Business

Kingsbarn Distillery has officially completed the construction of its four new bonded warehouses in Glenrothes, Fife. Each facility covers 1,000 square meters, allowing the beverage company to store up to 14,400 casks in every warehouse.

These expansive facilities will significantly enhance stock control, ensuring that the company is well-equipped to launch new releases and limited editions in the near future.

The expansion of storage capacity forms part of a substantial multi-million-pound investment by Wemyss Malt, announced last year. Alongside these improvements, the company aims to increase its production capacity by over 40%.

“This is another major milestone for us, as these new warehouses allow us to bring a large portion of our maturing whisky under one roof, while significantly expanding our storage capacity,” remarked William Wemyss, founder and chairman of Wemyss Family Spirits.

“This project has been years in the making and marks the next natural step in our business’s evolution while also representing the confidence we have in the trajectory of growth we are currently on.”

“As we continue to expand our production capabilities, securing the right infrastructure to support our ambitions is essential.”

“These warehouses provide the space we need, not just for today, but for the long-term future of Wemyss Family Spirits.”

Colorado Construction was selected as the preferred construction partner for this project, having already successfully completed Kingsbarns Distillery. Its well-established relationship with InchDairnie Distillery enabled an efficient vision for the site, while Fife Council offered valuable guidance throughout the planning process.

Regarding the next phases, production director Isabella Wemyss, who co-founded Kingsbarn in 2014 with her brother William, indicated that priorities will include transferring a “significant portion” of its casks into the new warehouses. This move aims to consolidate a larger portion of its maturing stock into a single location.

“These new facilities will provide us with even greater oversight of our inventory and cask management, allowing us to carefully monitor their progress and respond more efficiently to customer requests,” she added.

“In addition to housing our own stock, we have also partnered with an external business, with one of our warehouses now being used by industry partners for premium whisky storage.”

William and Isabella embarked on their whisky journey by launching Wemyss Malts in 2005, a brand dedicated to the art of crafting expertly blended single malts. They expanded their spirits portfolio through the introduction of Darnley’s Gin in 2010, followed by Kingsbarns Distillery four years later.
