The solution relies on Scorpion 3D Venom camera to inspect chocolates that have been deposited in compartmentalized trays. The camera takes precision shape measurements to confirm that each chocolate is in the right compartment and position. As Paul Wilson, managing director at Scorpion Vision, explains, “The system requires several data sets to determine, with high accuracy, whether the right chocolate is in the right position.”
Without this system, production lines usually require manual labor to perform quality checks of chocolate trays, which can create bottlenecks and back-ups. “We create a profile of the product in 3D and analyze it for certain reference features. We then use AI to enhance extraction of these features – essentially training the vision system to identify and locate anomalies,” says Wilson. The application of AI makes texture and pattern verification easier and more reliable than with the use of 3D vision alone.
