Finnebrogue commits to plant-based growth through new factory investment Food and Beverage Business

UK manufacturer Finnebrogue is set to invest £2.8m ($3.6m) in modernizing its plant-based food factory in Northern Ireland. This strategic move is aimed at accommodating further growth in the business, which is best known for its nitrite-free Better Naked Bacon brand. Despite recent challenges faced by the UK plant-based sector, Finnebrogue remains confident in the future of this industry.

In comparison to other plant-based companies that have faced difficulties such as Meatless Farm entering administration, Finnebrogue’s investment sets a positive example for the sector. Furthermore, Samworth Brothers, the food manufacturer responsible for the Wicked Kitchen range in Tesco’s, has been contemplating the future of its Revolution Kitchen business. However, Finnebrogue remains optimistic about the potential opportunities within the plant-based category.

Apart from its own brand, Finnebrogue also engages in co-manufacturing and supplies plant-based food to UK supermarkets. The company’s Chief Strategy Officer, Jago Pearson, highlighted their confidence and commitment to the plant-based category, pointing out the three-fold growth in output over the last two years. Additionally, their development teams are actively working on innovation, a key factor contributing to their success.

The recent investment in the plant-based facility will not only support Finnebrogue’s growth but also contribute to environmental sustainability. The integration of 2,846 solar panels on the factory’s roof aims to reduce carbon emissions. Moreover, additional infrastructure developments, including parking, will improve the overall operations of the site.

Opened in 2020 with a £32m investment, the plant-based facility is situated near Finnebrogue’s three other manufacturing facilities. As a family-owned business, Finnebrogue expects its revenue to exceed £200m this year, surpassing the £188m generated last year.

In conclusion, despite the challenges faced by the UK plant-based sector, Finnebrogue’s significant investment in their plant-based food factory reflects their confidence in the industry’s future. Their commitment to innovation and environmental sustainability further positions them as a leading player in the market. With a positive revenue outlook, Finnebrogue continues to establish itself as a prominent player in both the plant-based and food manufacturing industries.
