Dr. Schär Makes Strategic Investment in Production of Gluten-Free Biscuits in Germany Food and Beverage Business

Italy-based gluten-free food group Dr Schär is set to invest €12m ($13.2m) in its biscuit production at the manufacturing facility in Dreihausen, Germany.

The company aims to enhance its biscuit production, which serves as the core product of the site, according to Dr Schär.

This investment will involve the inclusion of new machines for measuring biscuit cream, which will improve ingredient dosing and reduce waste.

Moreover, Dr Schär plans to introduce robotics to enhance product composition and packaging, while also hiring 15 new production staff.

The objective of this investment is to increase efficiency and optimize the working hours of production employees, explained Matthias Müller-Thederan, the managing director of Dr Schär’s operations in Germany.

Headquartered in Burgstall, Italy, Dr Schär’s German division operates from Dreihausen, primarily servicing the German-speaking markets and the Benelux countries.

With 18 sites in 11 countries, including Spain, the UK, and the US, the gluten-free food maker generated €480m in revenue across the group last year and employs over 1,600 individuals worldwide.

Earlier this year, the company expanded its production in Spain by installing a new production line at its Alagón site.

In January, Dr Schär appointed Hannes Berger as its new CEO, succeeding the previous chief executive Philipp Schoeller, who had led the family-owned firm since 2020.
