Campbell Plans to Increase Goldfish Production Capacity in the United States Food and Beverage Business

Campbell Soup Co. is set to invest approximately $160 million to expand the production of Goldfish crackers at its facility in Utah, responding to rising consumer demand for the snack product. The investment will introduce a new production line at the Richmond site, thereby enhancing the bakery’s Goldfish production by 50%. The new line is projected to generate over 5 million Goldfish crackers per hour.

“Goldfish is an iconic brand, nearing a billion-dollar business, and this investment signifies our commitment to our brands’ growth and to the communities where we operate,” stated Chris Foley, the President of Campbell Snacks.

The expansion is forecasted to generate over 80 new job opportunities, supplementing the current workforce of more than 400 employees across the site and neighboring operations in Logan. The new line is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2024.

In addition, the plan incorporates the development of an onsite flour mill, adjacent to and connected with the bakery, constructed by Utah Flour Milling. This mill is a joint venture between Texas-based agricultural company PHM Brands’ Panhandle Milling, and Japan’s flour milling company, Nippon Corporation. The mill will be independently owned and operated, and it is expected to significantly reduce the site’s greenhouse gas emissions by eliminating over 2,200 trucks per year that transport flour from mill to bakery.

The expansion news follows Campbell’s recent sale of its Emerald Nuts brand to Flagstone Foods, as well as the closure of two snacks division office locations in the US, aimed at consolidating activities at the company’s headquarters in Camden, New Jersey.
