Cablevey Conveyors, a global leader in tubular drag conveying systems, has announced its first significant product launches following its merger with Akona Process Solutions, a newly formed material handling group that includes Cablevey, Kason, Marion, and Spiroflow.

The new offerings, CleanDrop and CleanTray, are customer-driven retrofit solutions designed to minimize product loss and enhance operational efficiency within food manufacturing environments.

These innovations underscore Cablevey’s commitment to addressing customer challenges, particularly in sectors like coffee, nutraceuticals, and fine powders. By responding with practical, engineering-focused solutions, Cablevey aims to reduce waste, improve efficiency, and protect profit margins.

CleanDrop tackles the problem of carryover—residual product that clings to conveyor discs and escapes past the intended discharge point. By employing a simple yet effective mechanism, this system gently agitates the discs as they move through a specially engineered discharge tube, releasing any stuck product. Initially developed for the coffee industry, lab tests with ground coffee have shown a tenfold decrease in carryover, leading to significant improvements in yield and cleanliness. Furthermore, CleanDrop is fully retrofittable, allowing existing Cablevey systems to be upgraded with minimal disruption, requiring only a replacement tube and straightforward installation.

On the other hand, CleanTray addresses a crucial issue: product loss in the conveyor’s turnaround section. Traditionally, material reaching this point can escape and become waste. Cablevey’s innovative CleanTray captures this residual product, recycling it back into the system to ensure nothing is lost. The three-piece design allows the tray to move fluidly with the system’s carriage while maintaining a consistent product path. Like CleanDrop, it is retrofit-ready, offering a cost-effective solution for enhancing efficiency in legacy food manufacturing installations.

“These are smart, low-cost upgrades that deliver real value,” stated John Adair, Akona’s new product development engineering manager. “By focusing on bottlenecks in the conveying process, such as carryover and turnaround loss, we’ve engineered solutions that assist our customers in reducing waste, improving yield, and maximizing the effectiveness of every batch. Additionally, because they are retrofittable, there’s no need to invest in a new system to experience the benefits.”

With both solutions already implemented at major coffee production facilities, Cablevey is now accepting global orders. This launch reinforces Akona’s ongoing commitment to delivering integrated, high-performance material processing systems supported by specialized expertise within the food manufacturing sector.
