Bühler, a leading supplier of innovative food manufacturing equipment, has announced its participation in interpack 2023 under the banner of “Driving the future of food – with sustainable solutions.” In addition to proposing solutions that address key sustainability issues, food security, and consumer trends, the company aims to inspire customers to innovate.

Thomas Bischof, the global head of business development consumer foods at Bühler Group, emphasized that the company supports its customers every step of the way, from product conception to development, delivery, and maintenance. By 2025, Bühler aims to provide solutions that reduce energy, waste, and water by 50% in the value chains of its customers, while also striving to achieve a 60% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in its operations by 2030.

Services

Bühler will showcase its energy and resource efficiency solutions at interpack 2023. PastaPro, a digital process service for regulating the water in dough production, is among the technologies that increase food and feed safety, boost capacity, and improve energy and resource efficiency. DryingPro Moisture Control is another digital service that positively impacts energy efficiency by making rapid and reliable dryer control adjustments.

Sustainable Production

In response to increasing demand for healthy snacks, consumers have turned to convenient, ready-to-eat foods, such as wafers. To meet this demand, Bühler has developed a new wafer baking plate and the SWAKT-Eco wafer baking oven, which features a premium solution for industrial wafer production that reduces gas consumption and emissions. Bühler’s DirectBake E and Turbu E electrical tunnel baking ovens are sustainable alternatives for industrial production since they can achieve the highest product quality while emitting the least amount of carbon during the baking process.

Cocoa, Coffee, and Nuts

Bühler has launched the Roastmaster20 coffee roaster, which includes new software called Playone that improves operation through real-time information delivery, increased monitoring, and recipe adjustments. Meanwhile, ChocoX, a modular moulding line for chocolate production, combines flexibility and agility in production and hygienic design, leading to significant reductions in operational costs. The Granulex 5 series of hammer mills, launched in 2022, offer 10% reduction in energy consumption per ton and even up to 30% reduction in some cases.

Plant-based alternatives

Bühler offers an array of protein value chain solutions, from bean to burger, at its Application and Training Centers in 23 countries worldwide. Christoph Vogel, the head of business unit human nutrition at Bühler Group, highlights the availability of a complete range of solutions for customers to test new products and optimize production processes.

Worldwide Presence with Application Centers

Bühler has expanded its network of Application and Training Centers and entered into a strategic partnership with German engineering firm endeco to develop pulse processing solutions with a significantly lower CO2 footprint, meet the growing demand for alternative protein sources, and drive pulse processing forward. The new Protein Application Center and Cocoa Application Center, which will showcase an integrated factory from raw cocoa beans to moulded products, are currently under construction with opening planned for the last quarter of 2023. Additionally, the new Food Creation Center in Uzwil will open its doors in the third quarter of 2023, showcasing a combination of the best of Bühler’s solutions and demonstrating the future of food in an integrated way.

In conclusion, Bühler is poised to demonstrate its commitment to driving the future of food with sustainable solutions at interpack 2023. From energy and resource efficiency to sustainable production and plant-based alternatives, the company’s offerings aim to make a significant impact on the global food industry.
