Aldi’s premium range has shown impressive growth, with sales surging by 12% compared to the same period in 2023. In the span of just four weeks, the supermarket sold a record 350,000 turkeys, accompanied by 400 tonnes of beef and an astounding 3 million sprouts. Additionally, shoppers indulged in approximately 50 million mince pies and around 25 million pigs in blankets.

Notably, December 23 marked Aldi’s busiest trading day ever, as the supermarket served nearly 3 million customers across the UK. This surge in customer traffic reflects the brand’s strong market position during the holiday season.

Commenting on these record sales, Aldi UK Chief Executive Giles Hurley stated, “Our offering of outstanding quality British products at unbeatable prices was a winning combination yet again this Christmas as customers wanted to celebrate in style after an uncertain year, but with more challenges ahead, they wanted to do it without breaking the bank.”

Moreover, Aldi has once again been recognized as the UK’s cheapest supermarket for 2024 by Which?, marking the fourth consecutive year it has received this accolade. Hurley confirmed that the company aims to maintain its price advantage over other supermarkets as the new year progresses.

“We dropped hundreds of prices last year as part of our ongoing mission to make outstanding quality, affordable food accessible to everyone,” he noted.

“As we look ahead to the new year, which for many will mean the prospect of living costs rising again, many families will be nervous about what 2025 holds.”

“Against this background, our mission remains clear: we will not only remain the UK’s lowest-priced supermarket, but we will ensure the price gap between ourselves and the traditional full-price supermarkets is as big as ever.”

The festive period was also profitable for Aldi’s discounter rival Lidl, which celebrated a turnover exceeding £1 billion for the first time. Sales at Lidl increased by 7% compared to 2023, with more than 2 million customers visiting its stores in Britain leading up to Christmas
