Finnebrogue, a renowned County Down food producer, has recently announced a substantial £2.8 million investment to upgrade its state-of-the-art plant-based food factory. This facility, just three years old, not only supplies UK supermarkets but is also famous for its high-quality pork sausages, wagyu burgers, and nitrite-free Naked Bacon. As part of its commitment to sustainability, Finnebrogue has installed 2,846 solar panels on the factory’s roof and is expanding car parking and infrastructure around the site to accommodate future growth.
This significant investment by Finnebrogue will bring about various benefits. Firstly, it is expected to significantly reduce the company’s CO2 emissions, eliminating a total of 580 tonnes. Additionally, the upgrade will enhance the energy security of the plant and provide the necessary infrastructure to support the company’s growth within the plant-based category.
According to Finnebrogue, the company’s overall revenue is projected to exceed £200 million this year, a notable increase from £188 million in the previous year. The plant-based output has witnessed a remarkable threefold growth since 2021, encompassing various plant-based food formats that are offered under private-label and co-manufacturing arrangements.
The deployment of the solar panels is scheduled for July 2023, while the additional infrastructure, including car parking and roadways, is set to be completed by the end of this year.
Finnebrogue’s Investment in Reducing Carbon Emissions in the Food Industry
Reflecting on this exciting announcement, Jago Pearson, Finnebrogue’s chief strategy officer, stated, “As we continue to thrive in the plant-based sector and expand our presence in other categories we operate in, we are committed to investing in both our talented workforce and top-notch facilities. With the privilege of having four outstanding food production facilities in County Down, the oldest of which is only eight years old, we constantly strive to make improvements and deliver the best possible food.”
“This latest investment in our industry-leading plant-based facility not only helps us reduce our carbon emissions but also ensures greater energy security and provides us with the necessary space to grow,” Pearson added.
Furthermore, Pearson expressed confidence in Finnebrogue’s future role in the plant-based category, highlighting the threefold growth achieved in just two years. The company’s development teams are dedicated to innovation that sets the industry agenda and contributes to its longstanding success.
