Sun-Maid Growers of California, a US snacks business, recently announced the promotion of Steve Loftus to CEO. Loftus, who previously served as the chief operating officer, joined the cooperative in 2022 after holding positions at Kraft Heinz and TreeHouse Foods.
“I am honored to assume the role of CEO and grateful for the support of the board and our grower-members,” said Loftus, expressing his excitement about leading Sun-Maid and upholding its industry leadership position.
Established in 1912, Sun-Maid is a farmer’s cooperative comprising hundreds of grower families with vineyards in California’s Central Valley. Alongside Loftus’ appointment, Harry Overly stepped down from his position as executive chairman of the board, focusing on his role at Flagstone Foods, an acquisition by Atlas Holdings in 2019. Overly’s guidance had been crucial for Sun-Maid during a period of growth and transformation.
In light of these changes, Paul Toste, the board chairman, praised Overly’s contributions and expressed optimism about Sun-Maid’s future under Loftus’ leadership. The cooperative looks forward to new heights under Loftus’ vision and dedication to grower families and the overall company.
Notably, Flagstone Foods, under Overly’s leadership, acquired the Emerald Nuts brand from Campbell Soup Co. in a strategic move to enhance its presence in the healthy snack market. With a strong financial performance in recent years, the collaboration with Emerald Nuts further solidifies Flagstone Foods’ position in the industry.
In this evolving food and beverage landscape, Sun-Maid’s leadership transition comes at a pivotal moment, highlighting the importance of visionary leadership in navigating industry trends and consumer preferences. As Loftus takes the helm as CEO, the cooperative is poised for continued success and innovation in the food and drink sector.
