McVitie’s Parent Company Names New Managing Director for UK & Ireland Food and Beverage Business
L-R: David Murray & Mete Buyurgan

David Murray, currently the head of Pladis UK and Ireland, will transition into a newly established role as global chief commercial officer of McVitie’s parent company. Meanwhile, Mete Buyurgan will take over as the new lead for the UK and Ireland market starting April 6.

Following the abrupt resignation of CEO Salman Amin last month due to personal reasons, chief financial officer Sridhar Ramamurthy and Tim Brett, managing director for Europe and developing markets, have temporarily taken charge of operations. In one of their initial actions, they tasked Murray with developing the company’s global platform and brand strategy as part of a comprehensive commercial transformation.

Murray has dedicated five years to leading Pladis UK and Ireland, and his successor Buyurgan boasts a total of eight years with the company. Buyurgan comes from Pladis’ Turkish, Eastern Europe, and Central Asian business unit, which he has overseen since its inception in 2016 when Pladis was established as a subsidiary of Yıldız Holding.

During Buyurgan’s leadership, Pladis Türkiye, Eastern Europe, and Central Asia “grew revenue and profit despite significant headwinds.”

In commenting on these organizational changes, chief human resources officer Geraldine Fraser stated: “While our brands like McVitie’s and Ülker have been part of peoples’ lives for decades, pladis is still a young business having started life nine years ago.”

“We have made tremendous progress together on our mission to build one of the world’s fastest growing snacks companies. Today, we take another step on that journey to evolve our business and position us for continued growth in an ever-changing retail and consumer landscape.”

Founded in 2016, Pladis encompasses several renowned brands including McVitie’s, Jacob’s, GODVIA, Ülker, and Flipz. The company operates 27 bakeries and factories across 11 different countries.

According to its financial results for the fiscal year ending 2023, the group’s revenue surpassed £2.7 billion.
