Gordon Cruikshanks officially assumed the position of Regional Managing Director for Lidl Northern Ireland on 1 March. Prior to this role, he held the position of Sales Operations Director at Lidl NI, where he successfully managed the daily operations of the sales team and identified growth and development opportunities within the business.
Cruikshanks takes over from Ivan Ryan, who has been promoted to the Chief Customer Officer for Lidl Ireland and Northern Ireland, highlighting Lidl’s commitment to internal career advancement.
Joining the discount retailer in 2005 as a trainee sales operations manager, Cruikshanks has accumulated nearly 20 years of diverse experience within the organization. His previous roles have included Sales Operations Manager, Regional Property Manager, and Sales Operations Director, showcasing his versatility and leadership capabilities.
In the past year, Cruikshanks engaged in a specialized development program with Lidl Germany. This program focused on logistics and supply chain management, and he also honed his German language skills at one of Lidl’s regional distribution centers in Frankfurt.
“I am delighted to take on the role of Regional Managing Director for Lidl Northern Ireland and support our ambitious expansion plans in the region,” he remarked.
“Having started my career with Lidl in 2005 and spent almost 20 years in roles across the business in Northern Ireland and internationally, my experience is a testament to the exceptional development opportunities Lidl has to offer as an employer.”
“I now have the pleasure of leading the incredible local team here in Northern Ireland across our 43 stores and regional distribution centre in Nutts Corner. Our focus remains on continued growth, offering more customers across the region the highest quality products at market-leading value in communities throughout Northern Ireland.”
In February 2025, Lidl inaugurated Northern Ireland’s newest and largest store in Coleraine, and plans for additional store openings are underway throughout the year. This expansion reflects Lidl’s strategic efforts in food manufacturing and retail.
Currently, Lidl employs over 1,300 individuals across its 43 stores and indirectly supports an additional 6,900 jobs within Northern Ireland through its extensive supply chain.
