Recently announced plans indicate that entry-level pay outside of London will increase from £12.40 to £12.75 per hour. Employees will also have the potential to see their wages rise to £13.65 as they accumulate length of service.
In London, new starters will benefit from a pay increase to £14 per hour, with the possibility of reaching £14.35 based on their tenure with the company.
These enhanced hourly rates will precede the government’s updated National Living Wage, set to take effect in April.
According to Lidl, the new pay rates reflect a £0.50 hourly premium over the upcoming National Living Wage and surpass the Living Wage Foundation’s newly established Real Living Wage.
This pay increase represents a significant investment, totaling £15 million, which includes salary adjustments for staff across the organization.
“More households than ever before are choosing to shop with us, making Lidl the fastest-growing bricks-and-mortar supermarket for well over a year,” remarked Stephanie Rogers, chief people officer at Lidl GB.
“This success is largely due to our hard-working colleagues, who each play an incredibly important role in delivering quality, affordable products to communities across the country. This pay increase is just one part of our commitment to creating a workplace where everyone feels valued.”
Rogers further emphasized Lidl’s leadership in pay standards within the retail sector.
“We’re proud to offer leading pay rates in the sector, while fostering a culture of opportunity and inclusion that helps our teams thrive,” she asserted.
“As we continue to grow, investing in our people remains at the heart of what we do, ensuring Lidl is not only a great place to shop but also a great place to work and grow a career.”
In addition to these pay increases, Lidl has announced plans to open four new stores and re-open five existing ones within a month. The new locations will include Canning Town, Preston, Walsall, and Wombourne.
