Mexican bakery giant Grupo Bimbo has announced the closure of its facility in Lévis, Quebec, with 95 jobs affected by the decision. The bakery will shut down in the week starting 1 July, and products will be transferred to other plants in Quebec with available capacity.
According to Bimbo, the closure is part of its strategic efforts to drive productivity improvements, increase capacity utilization, and reduce overall costs while maintaining high-quality products and services for customers. Marie-Ève Royer, president of Bimbo Canada, expressed regret over the closure but emphasized the need to adapt to changing market conditions.
Affected employees will be encouraged to seek opportunities at other Bimbo Canada facilities, including those in Quebec City and Sainte-Marie-de-Beauce (Vachon). Bimbo Canada is known for its popular brands such as Dempster’s, Stonemill, Villaggio, and Natural Bakery.
In related news, Grupo Bimbo recently announced plans to reduce its capital expenditure in 2024 and 2025 following a decline in quarterly sales and profits. The company remains committed to strategic cost management and operational efficiency in response to changing market dynamics.
