Flowers Foods, one of the largest bakery groups in the US, has appointed Terry Thomas, a board director and former Unilever executive, as its new Chief Growth Officer. Thomas, who worked for Unilever for over a decade and has been on Flowers Foods’ board for three years, will be responsible for leading and managing growth initiatives for the Nature’s Own brand. In his new role, Thomas will oversee product development, marketing, and customer partnerships.
Flowers Foods Chairman and CEO, Ryals McMullian, expressed confidence in Thomas, stating, “Terry’s global experience working at a senior level for some of the most respected CPG companies in the world will be invaluable to us as we continue to transform Flowers into a consumer- and brand-centric company.”
Prior to joining Flowers Foods, Thomas held various positions at Unilever, including the role of Global Chief Customer Officer for the personal care business. Alongside Thomas’ appointment, Flowers Foods also announced the promotion of Heeth Varnedoe to the position of President. Varnedoe, who has been with the company since 1990, previously served as Chief Operating Officer and Chief Transformation Officer.
In the second quarter of this year, Flowers Foods saw an 8.8% increase in sales, reaching $1.23 billion. The company’s income from operations also grew by 23.6% compared to the same period last year. Flowers Foods ended the previous fiscal year with a sales increase of 11% to $4.81 billion, with income from operations rising to $303.2 million.
