Britvic, the FTSE 250 global soft drinks business, has partnered with Atrato Onsite Energy, a leading solar energy provider, to deliver clean energy to Britvic via an innovative 10-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). Atrato’s new solar installation in Northamptonshire will generate energy exclusively for Britvic. It will have a total capacity of 28MW and will be capable of generating 33.3 GWh pa of clean energy, equivalent to powering 11,500 homes or planting 260,000 trees.
The partnership with Atrato will enable Britvic, a key player in the food and beverage industry, to significantly reduce its carbon footprint and contribute to a more sustainable future. By harnessing low carbon technology and renewable energy sources, Britvic aims to achieve its goal of net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
The electricity generated by Atrato’s solar farm will be sufficient to power 75% of Britvic’s current operations in Great Britain, including its Beckton and Leeds factories. With the capacity to produce 2,000 recyclable bottles per minute for iconic brands such as Tango, Pepsi, and Robinsons, Britvic is committed to sustainable manufacturing practices.
This latest agreement with Atrato marks a significant milestone in Britvic’s sustainability journey. By investing in renewable energy, Britvic aims to contribute to a healthier planet while ensuring long-term stability for its operations. The 10-year Power Purchase Agreement allows Britvic to plan more efficiently and align its business with its Healthier People, Healthier Planet mission.
To further reduce its carbon emissions, Britvic has made substantial investments across its manufacturing base. For instance, the company has installed biomass boilers in Brazil and implemented various energy-saving projects. Additionally, Britvic will be using 100% renewable electricity from local wind energy to produce its iconic water brand, Ballygowan, through a Corporate Power Purchase Agreement in Ireland.
Atrato Onsite Energy, the green energy solution provider, has fully financed the solar farm in Northamptonshire. Atrato’s expertise and experience in renewable energy have made them the preferred choice for many UK companies, including Tesco, Marks & Spencer, and Amazon. The solar installation is expected to be commissioned in early 2024, providing an additional 28MW of renewable energy capacity.
Matt Swindall, Chief Procurement Officer at Britvic, expressed his excitement for the partnership, stating that it aligns with Britvic’s sustainability goals and provides stability for the business. The consistent source of renewable energy will enable Britvic to produce its quality brands while contributing to a greener future.
Gurpreet Gujral, Managing Director and Head of Renewable Energy at Atrato, emphasized the innovative nature of the Power Purchase Agreement, ensuring a steady supply of clean energy that meets Britvic’s electricity needs. This partnership exemplifies Atrato’s commitment to providing attractively priced, long-term clean energy solutions for its clients.
Overall, this collaboration between Britvic and Atrato represents a significant step towards a more sustainable food and beverage industry. By embracing renewable energy, implementing low carbon technologies, and adopting a more sustainable supply chain, Britvic is leading the way in driving positive change within the food and drink sector.
