US Food Company, Creations Foods, Acquires Highkey in a Deal to Expand Healthier Snack Options Bakery and Cereal Food and Beverage Business

Creations Foods, a US-based better-for-you snacks company, continues to expand its portfolio through the acquisition of local peer Highkey. The deal, undisclosed in sum, coincides with Creations’ strategy to build a portfolio of healthier snack brands, an initiative that began with its acquisition of Moon Cheese in March of last year. Owned by agri-food-focused Canadian private-equity firm Rio Investment Partners, Creations is a gluten-free and plant-based snacks supplier that also serves private-label clients. Highkey, based in Florida, offers a range of low-carb and low- or no-sugar snacks, including cookies, wafers, and bites.

According to Aki Georgacacos, chairman and CEO of Creations, “We’re pleased to have acquired the assets of a second leading brand in the better-for-you snack segment. Leveraging our acquisition of Moon Cheese last year, we are moving quickly to reinforce both brands in the marketplace as we continue our evolution into an integrated manufacturer and marketer of leading low-carb baked snacks.”

The deal represents a significant milestone in Creations’ broader expansion strategy, as they survey potential acquisition targets and aim to further bolster their position in the healthy snack market. Georgacacos stated, “We are actively pursuing better-for-you brands that make strategic sense within our product portfolio and product innovation roadmap.”

He also highlighted the ongoing discussions with Highkey, stating that the brand’s strong connections with its customer base and its leading no-sugar brand status, both in retail and e-commerce, made it an attractive M&A target. In its pursuit of expansion, Creations has a proven track record, having previously acquired the Moon Cheese snack brand from EnWave Corp. The earlier joint venture between the two companies suggests a strong foundation for future growth and development.

The acquisition represents a further step in Creations’ strengthened position within the food and beverage industry, as the company continues to solidify its market presence and product offerings.
