Planted Foods Receives Investment from SevenVentures meat alternatives Food and Beverage Business

Alt-meat innovator Planted Foods has successfully secured funding from SevenVentures, the investment division of the German media conglomerate ProSiebenSat.1. While the specific financial details of this “media-for-equity investment” remain undisclosed, SevenVentures has indicated an investment amount in the “mid-single-digit millions”.

This partnership is not SevenVentures’ first venture into the meat alternatives sector. In previous investments, they backed Tindle, formerly known as Next Gen Foods, highlighting their commitment to supporting innovative food solutions.

Under this new agreement, SevenVentures will assist Planted with advertising across ProSiebenSat.1’s channels and the Joyn streaming platform through the end of 2027. SevenVentures CEO Florian Hirschberger stated, “We want to use the reach of our digital and broadcasting portfolio to gain the trust of even more consumers and convince them of the quality and responsible production methods of Planted.”

Established in 2019, Planted offers an impressive array of plant-based meat products across numerous European markets, including Germany, France, Italy, Austria, and the UK. Their product range includes alternatives for chicken, pulled meats, and kebabs.

As the food and beverage industry trends evolve, the demand for sustainable and health-conscious options continues to grow. Planted is poised to meet these food and drink consumer trends with its commitment to quality and innovation.

Co-founder and management board member Christoph Jenny emphasized, “With TV advertising, Planted will continue to establish itself in the mass market as the trusted, sustainable, healthy and, above all, delicious plant-based meat brand.”

Planted is headquartered in Kemptthal, Switzerland, where it operates a glass production facility. Remarkably, they plan to open another production plant in Memmingen, Germany, in 2025.

In September, SevenVentures made headlines by investing in Formo, a Berlin-based startup known for launching the “world’s first” vegan cheese crafted from koji protein, currently available in Germany and Austria. Other notable companies that have attracted investment from SevenVentures include Nucao, a sustainable chocolate maker, and KoRo, which specializes in dried fruits and nut products.

In conclusion, as the food and drink business landscape continues to shift towards sustainability, investments in innovative companies like Planted Foods reflect larger industry trends that prioritize health, environmental consciousness, and consumer preferences.
