Orkla expands Bubs confectionery plant in Sweden through investment Orkla Food and Beverage Business Orkla

Orkla, a Norway-based food maker, is investing Skr20m ($1.8m) to expand its Bubs confectionery factory in Sweden. The expansion of the Bubs factory in Jönköping is in response to a growing demand from both Swedish and international customers for their products. Niclas Arnelin, business area manager for confectionery at Orkla, stated, “We are noticing the international trend through an increasing number of international visitors to the website, followers on social media and many new inquiries from international wholesalers.”

The acquisition of the family-founded confectioner Bubs by Orkla in 2022 has led to the brand’s Jönköping factory employing 50 people. About 25% of Bubs candies are exported, primarily to other Nordic countries. The investment in expanding the factory is part of a larger development plan aimed at increasing capacity by around 20% in the first phase, scheduled for completion during the summer.

One of Bubs’ popular candy products is Raspberry Licorice Skull. Orkla also owns other confectionery brands such as OLW, Smash, and Göteborgs kex. In Sweden, the company is well-established with food brands like Grumme, Felix, Anamma, KronJäst, and OLW. Orkla has a significant presence in Sweden with 3,000 employees and 15 production facilities focusing on food and hygiene products.
