Aberdeen-based baked goods manufacturer Murdoch Allan recently completed the acquisition of Scottish baking group Teviotdale Bakery, expanding its presence in the food and beverage industry.
Details of the financial transaction were not disclosed.
As a result of the acquisition, Murdoch Allan will now own all of Teviotdale Bakery’s assets, paving the way for its expansion beyond Aberdeenshire for the first time.
Together, the two businesses boast a combined annual turnover of £9m ($11.4m).
Teviotdale Bakery, known for its popular range of baked morning rolls including the traditional Dundee roll, has been under the ownership of Graham Cuthbert and his family since 1978.
Cuthbert will no longer have a role in the future of the business, according to Murdoch Allan.
Despite the acquisition, the eight employees of Teviotdale Bakery will remain unaffected, joining Murdoch Allan’s existing 150-strong workforce.
In addition, Paul Allan, managing director of Murdoch Allan, highlighted that the company intends to create new job opportunities as part of its expansion strategy.
Formerly serving independent retailers in Dundee, Teviotdale Bakery will now operate under the name Murdoch Allan and contribute to supplying the group’s six bakery outlets across Aberdeenshire – Frasberburg, Turriff, Hatton, Peterhead, Mintlaw, and Thains.
Notably, the breakfast rolls from Teviotdale will continue to be produced at the Dundee site, alongside a range of new products introduced by the new owner.
These bakery goods will also be distributed to supermarkets and independent stores supplied by Murdoch Allan, including Asda, Aldi, Morrisons, and Sainsbury’s.
Moreover, Teviotdale Bakery’s products cater to foodservice customers like Sodexo, Inspire, and BaxterStorey.
Established in 1991, Murdoch Allan specializes in baking a variety of pastry goods including meat and veggie pies, as well as traditional Aberdeen butteries and breakfast rolls.
