Canadian fruit and vegetable supplier Mucci Farms has expanded its operations by acquiring Greenhill Produce, a specialized greenhouse facility known for bell pepper cultivation. The terms of this transaction were not disclosed.
This acquisition is poised to enhance Mucci Farms’ presence and capability to serve retail, wholesale, and foodservice customers. Established in 2000, Greenhill Produce, located in Kent Bridge, Ontario, started with a modest six-acre greenhouse and has transformed into a leading greenhouse grower. The company is recognized for its forward-thinking farming methods, including advanced robotics and automation.
Mucci Farms intends to continue the cultivation of bell peppers at the newly acquired facility. CEO Bert Mucci emphasized, “We have had the privilege of working closely with Greenhill for many years, so we know firsthand the exceptional quality of both their facilities and their crops.” He further noted, “Bringing Greenhill into the Mucci family enhances our supply chain to offer more reliable supply for our partners.”
This acquisition aligns with Mucci Farms’ strategic growth, following its earlier purchase of Hacienda Farms, a substantial 160-acre facility in Coatsworth, Ontario, in May. In 2022, Cox Enterprises, a diversified US conglomerate, invested in Mucci Farms to further bolster its operations.
Currently, Mucci Farms operates over 650 acres of greenhouses across Canada and the US, producing a variety of crops, including tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, strawberries, and lettuce. Cox Farms president Steve Bradley stated, “This acquisition marks an exciting new chapter for Cox Farms as we continue to build our vision of sustainable, high-quality food production across North America.”
Moreover, he highlighted the significance of this deal, asserting that the integration of Greenhill into Cox Farms strengthens Mucci’s capacity to assure partners of a more reliable supply of fresh produce. Together, they are not only aiming to broaden their reach but also reinforce their dedication to innovation and excellence in the agriculture sector.
