The Serious Sweet Company (SSC) expands its UK confectionery portfolio through the acquisition of Lexi’s brand owner, Nom Bites.
SSC has been on an active merger and acquisition path this year, already completing deals for the private-label and wholesale manufacturing arms of John Bull – now known as The Real Candy Co. – and Mallow & Marsh in 2023.
Prior to these acquisitions, SSC purchased the Mighty Fine honeycomb brand and the Mr Stanley’s line of boiled sweets, fudge, and toffee.
London-based Nom Bites, trading as Lexi’s, was established in 2020 by Alexei Khatiwada. The company specializes in producing gluten-free, egg-free, milk-free, nut-free, and soy-free protein bars and mallow crispy rice treats. Their products are available both directly to consumers and online through platforms like Amazon and Ocado.
Rob Whitehead, the founder and managing director of SSC and CEO of the holding company Zubrance, did not disclose the purchase price for Lexi’s.
“Gluten-, dairy-, and nut-free bars perfectly complement our existing brands, allowing us to offer customers a combination of indulgent and healthy treats that cater to specific dietary needs or those seeking a healthier snack,” stated Whitehead.
Over the next few months, the range of Lexi’s products will be integrated into SSC’s offerings, alongside their other brands.
Lexi’s founder, Khatiwada, expressed his pride in bringing inclusive treats to a mainstream audience and witnessing the brand’s tremendous growth, starting from his home kitchen and selling millions of treats across the UK.
Besides its own brands, including the newly introduced Ultimate English line, SSC supplies private-label sweets to major retailers such as Asda and Aldi. SSC Brands was established to manage the branded side of the company’s portfolio.
SSC aims to become the go-to destination for crafted English confectionery, ensuring that every batch, from fudge to mallows, toffees to honeycomb, brittles to butterscotch and ices, delivers a delicious moment in time.
