Fonterra’s global consumer business, along with its integrated operations and consumer brands in Oceania, Sri Lanka, and the Middle East, is valued at over €2.8 billion in sales!
This strategic deal encompasses renowned brands such as Mainland, Anchor, Perfect Italiano, Western Star, Ratthi, Cheesdale, Fernleaf, Anlene, and Anmum. Additionally, it includes 16 manufacturing facilities located in Australia, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Saudi Arabia. As part of this agreement, 4,300 employees will transition to Lactalis Australia.
However, the proposed transaction is contingent upon certain financial adjustments and conditions. These include approvals from farmer shareholders and the necessary regulatory clearances.
“Combining the Fonterra consumer business operations and market-leading brands with our existing footprint in Australia and Asia will allow Lactalis to further grow its position in key markets,” stated Lactalis chair Emmanuel Besnier.
In agreement, Fonterra CEO Miles Hurrell noted that the sale represents a significant achievement for the cooperative.
“As the world’s largest dairy company, Lactalis has the scale required to take these brands and businesses to the next level,” emphasized Hurrell.
“Fonterra farmers will continue to benefit from their success, with Lactalis to become one of our most significant Ingredients customers.”
Lactalis Australia currently operates in various categories, including cheese, white and flavored milk beverages, yogurt, butter, and cream. It runs 15 manufacturing facilities and employs over 2,500 individuals.
On a global scale, Lactalis operates in 50 countries and employs approximately 85,500 staff members. The company owns well-known brands such as Président, Galbani, Parmalat, and Leerdammer.
