In a statement, The co-founder of the Leon food chain, Henry Dimbleby, has recently launched an investment firm called Bramble Ventures. This firm will make investments in food businesses that have the potential to significantly improve the environmental or health impacts of the food we eat, or improve food security in the face of climate change. It is backing food businesses that are committed to changing the world for the better.
With a £50m ($63.3m) fund, Bramble Ventures is global, but there is an initial focus on “UK companies with global potential.” According to a spokesperson, this investment firm will provide funding and support to companies from Series A to growth stage and help pioneer “better ways of feeding the world” by championing these businesses.
The investment firm is led by Dimbleby, who was also the adviser behind the UK government’s National Food Strategy. He expressed his belief in the need for change in the global food system due to its grave impacts on the environment and human health.
Dimbleby stated, “Things have to change – and in fact, they already are. There are fantastic new businesses springing up all over the food system, using both cutting-edge technology and old wisdom to create better ways of feeding the world.”
Moreover, he emphasized the firm’s aim to help UK entrepreneurs deliver what politicians have not yet been able to achieve in terms of improving the food system.
Dimbleby and John Vincent, Leon co-founder, also sold the chain to EG Group, the Issa brothers’ petrol station and convenience store business, which now operates as part of Asda.
By launching Bramble Ventures, it is clear that both Henry Dimbleby and Bramble Ventures are at the forefront of change in the food and beverage industry. They aspire to support businesses that have a strong commitment to improving the global food system. “The current global food system is disastrous both for our bodies and our planet.”
As a result, Bramble Ventures is poised to make a significant impact on the food and beverage industry trends, food and drink business, and food and drink consumer trends. It is entering the market with a clear aim of driving change and supporting innovation within the food industry.
