Freiberger, a German private label pizza manufacturer, is investing €45m ($48.9m) in a new frozen pizza production facility at its UK subsidiary, Stateside Foods. The investment will go towards constructing a new plant for frozen pizza products in Bolton, near Manchester, and production is expected to begin in the first quarter of next year. This move will allow Stateside Foods to expand its portfolio to include frozen pizza items for the first time.
The decision to invest in the Bolton group comes as Freiberger aims to meet the growing demand for frozen pizzas from UK consumers more efficiently. The new facility in Bolton will feature state-of-the-art stone oven technology to improve delivery speed, enhance customer satisfaction, and meet sustainability requirements.
“With the new plant in the UK, we are taking an important step towards strengthening our market presence and ensuring the high quality of our products,” said Freiberger CEO Thomas Schulz.
Stateside Foods specializes in private label chilled pizza products, including snack-size formats and regular 12-inch pizzas sold in UK supermarkets. The company was acquired by Freiberger in 2003 and operates three manufacturing sites in Bolton, Skelmersdale, and Haslingden.
Established in 1976, Freiberger produces a range of savoury baked products, including chilled and frozen pizzas, tarte flambées, ready-to-eat pasta meals, bread snacks, baguettes, pizza snacks, and hot dogs. Its products are distributed across 30 European countries, as well as in the US, Canada, and South Africa.
Owned by the German sugar giant Suedzucker since 1998, Freiberger is known for its commitment to quality and innovation in the food and beverage industry.
