Ferrero US subsidiary Ferrara Candy Co. has acquired Brazilian snacks business Dori Alimentos.
Ferrara, which was bought by privately-owned Italian giant Ferrero in 2017, sees Dori Alimentos as a strategic fit with its existing candy portfolio.
Based in Chicago, Ferrara is known for brands like Brach’s, Nerds, and Trolli.
Dori Alimentos offers popular brands such as Dori, Pettiz, and Jubes. Over the last few years, the company has experienced substantial revenue growth, although exact figures have not been disclosed.
The financial details of the acquisition have not been revealed.
Ferrara conducted the deal through CTH, the lead holding company of Ferrara. This is the same entity Ferrero used to acquire UK biscuit maker Burton’s Biscuit Co. in 2021.
Ferrara CEO Marco Capurso expressed excitement about entering the rapidly growing Brazilian market and the opportunities it presents for both Dori Alimentos and Ferrara.
According to Ferrara, Dori Alimentos’ 3,100 employees will join its existing workforce of 4,600. The transaction is expected to be finalized in the fourth quarter of 2023.
Established in 1967, Dori Alimentos exports its products to over 40 countries.
Dori Alimentos CEO Pedro Lobo expressed confidence in partnering with Ferrara, highlighting the alignment in their consumer-centric approach, innovation mindset, and belief in the emotional connection of sweets and snacks.
