Parfetts, an employee-owned wholesaler, has taken a significant step towards reducing its carbon footprint and improving cost efficiency through the implementation of a new sustainability program. By investing in the latest technologies, such as LED lighting, solar panels, and greener mobility options, the company expects to generate substantial savings while offering exceptional value to its customers in a challenging economic climate.
To begin with, Parfetts has installed new LED lighting systems in its facilities located in Halifax and Sheffield, with plans to extend this upgrade to its Anfield site in the near future. Furthermore, the introduction of solar panels has not only enhanced the existing solar capacity at the Halifax depot but has also been successfully implemented at the Sheffield, Anfield, and Stockport depots.
Commenting on the investment, Guy Swindell, joint managing director of Parfetts, emphasized the company’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint. He stated, “Parfetts is dedicated to realizing a greener future and is actively investing in cutting-edge technologies to drive change rapidly. By transitioning to LED lighting, adopting solar panels, and exploring greener mobility solutions, we anticipate substantial cost savings that will enable us to provide excellent value to our customers while protecting their profit margins in these challenging economic times.”
Additionally, the introduction of solar panels is expected to significantly reduce Parfetts’ energy expenses, lowering the charges from 72p per unit during the daytime to just 16.5p per unit. This investment aligns with Parfetts’ commitment to harnessing sustainable energy sources.
Parfetts is also introducing greener mobility options within its corporate fleet. Currently, 5% of the fleet consists of electric vehicles, and further investments are being made in a routing system that will effectively minimize emissions during daily deliveries.
For the successful implementation of these sustainable initiatives, Parfetts has partnered with Solar Crown Commercial and Procure Direct. Solar Crown Commercial is supporting the rollout of solar PV panels, while Procure Direct is responsible for the installation of LED lighting systems across Parfetts’ estate. LED lighting offers numerous advantages, including energy efficiency, longer lifespan, durability, and low heat emission.
By prioritizing sustainability and embracing newer energy-efficient technologies, Parfetts is driving positive change within its operations and offering enhanced value to its customers. Through these initiatives, the company not only reduces its environmental impact but also ensures long-term profitability and resilience in a competitive market.
