Retailers across the nation celebrated the historic occasion of the King’s Coronation, bringing together their local communities through street parties and family fun days. This event has been made extra special by the latest round of MADL’s Heart of the Community Awards, which saw Nisa-affiliated retailers nominating local community groups to receive up to £500 in funding, with specific emphasis on small charities and community groups involved with the coronation.

Through the Heart of the Community initiative, 147 charities and good causes across the UK received donations totalling £73,500, with each recipient benefitting from £500. Proudfoot in Scarborough played a significant role in supporting 16 local projects and good causes with a total of £8,000 in MADL funding going towards activities such as tree planting, community picnics, and village hall events.

Valerie Aston, Group Director for The Proudfoot Group, expressed great pride in their contribution to the celebration, saying: “For our new King’s coronation celebrations, we were successful again, supporting 16 groups throughout our local communities, each receiving a £500 donation to go towards community activity.” Aston emphasised the value of celebrating together, from tea parties, bouncy castles, and games to tree planting, and enabling numerous groups to join in the fun during this very special bank holiday weekend.

Another company that contributed to this wonderful event is Power Service Stations, supporting eight local projects and good causes with £4,000 in donations through the initiative. This money funded afternoon tea parties, a coronation carnival float, and a party for Ukrainian refugees in the area.

Claire Partridge, Marketing Manager for Pricewatch, expressed satisfaction with the success of their nominations. “We were delighted with the news that eight of our nominated charities won the Heart of the Community Awards”, Partridge said. The funding gave a much-needed boost to the causes they work with as they brought their communities together for the King’s Coronation – and what a celebration! Partridge expressed profound gratitude to MADL for giving them an invaluable support structure, allowing them to donate to good causes at the heart of their communities.

Kate Carroll, Nisa’s Head of Charity, acknowledged that they had received a significant number of nominations for this round’s Heart of The Community Awards. Carroll expressed deep delight that Nisa retailers could once again get on board with funding giveaways for their communities, enabling the donation of £73,500 to 147 causes across the UK. She called the event a “real historic moment to remember,” expressing pride in MADL and so many Nisa retailers who were able to provide a platform for generations young and old to enjoy the celebrations.
