Maple Donuts, a prestigious portfolio company of Swander Pace Capital, has appointed Greg Somerville as the new CEO of the US-based bakery company.

Somerville brings a wealth of experience from his previous role as president and CEO of Savencia Fromage & Dairy, a subsidiary based in the US. Moreover, he has held executive positions at well-known companies, including Land O’Lakes, Pillsbury (now owned by General Mills), and Unilever.

“This leadership transition represents a pivotal moment for the Pennsylvania-based manufacturer as it embarks on its next phase of accelerated growth and market expansion,” stated Swander Pace Capital, which acquired Maple Donuts in the summer.

Founded in 1946 by the Burnside family, Maple Donuts specializes in producing private-label doughnuts for the retail channel while also serving the US foodservice sector.

Luke Burnside, now serving as vice president for sales, commented: “Greg’s extensive experience in scaling consumer packaged goods platforms and his deep expertise in channel development position him as the ideal leader for Maple Donuts’ next growth chapter.

“His customer-first mindset and operational acumen will enhance our partnerships across both retail and foodservice channels, accelerating our market expansion.”

Just Food has requested additional information from Swander Pace Capital regarding the expansion program and potential new markets and customers, as Somerville indicated that Maple Donuts is at an “exciting inflection point.”

Tyler Matlock, a managing director at the private equity firm and current board chair for Maple Donuts, added: “Greg’s appointment is a strategic milestone in Maple Donuts’ evolution. The Burnside family has been extraordinary stewards of Maple Donuts, and we want to uphold that legacy.”

Swander Pace Capital has not disclosed the financial terms of its earlier transaction involving Maple Donuts.

Previous acquisitions made by the investor, which remain part of its portfolio, include Boulangerie St. Méthode, Café Valley, Inovata Foods, Purely Elizabeth, Mighty Spark, Alden’s Organic, and Bragg Live Foods.
