Heura Foods Introduces Groundbreaking ‘York-Style’ Ham: A Game-Changer for the Deli Industry with No Additives

Food and Drink Technology

Heura Foods is touting its revolutionary ‘York-Style’ plant-powered ham as a game-changer in the industry. Boasting a remarkable 64% protein density and low levels of total and saturated fat, this additive-free ham is made with extra virgin olive oil and contains no harmful additives.

As a plant-powered food tech company, Heura Foods aims to address the biggest consumer barriers by utilizing cutting-edge science and product development. The company asserts that their latest innovation aligns perfectly with the World Health Organization’s (WHO) recommendation to reduce processed meat consumption. By offering a healthier alternative to processed animal-origin meats, Heura Foods aims to address concerns about the potential health implications associated with such products.

Marc Coloma, CEO and co-founder of Heura, explains that their new patent-pending technology is set to redefine food processing and expedite the plant-based protein transition. With a focus on high nutritional values and clean labels, Heura Foods not only gains a competitive advantage but also provides superior alternatives to traditional meat products.

Furthermore, Heura Foods highlights the importance of limiting processed meat consumption, in line with WHO recommendations. Spain, for instance, consumes eight times more processed meat than recommended by the WHO, making the launch of their new ‘York-style’ ham slices a timely solution to these concerns.

Coloma emphasizes that the Heura slices are not mere alternatives to those made from animal origin, but their successors. By delivering the taste and texture experience of consuming animal-origin meat while improving nutritional values and utilizing high-quality ingredients, Heura Foods aims to prioritize both good nutrition and good health, all while protecting the environment.

The introduction of the ‘York-Style’ Ham slices marks Heura’s first product using the technology developed by their Good Rebel Tech (G.R.T) division. This technology, presented in April, utilizes a novel thermomechanical processing technique to create plant-based products with superior sensory appeal and significantly improved nutritional values. Notably, this technique requires only protein, water, and oil to structure a product, eliminating the need for additives such as e-numbers.

Isabel Fernandez, chief technology officer at Heura, explains that the company tackles industry challenges through a transdisciplinary approach to scientific research. Rather than making small incremental advancements, Heura aims for exponential progress by combining scientific discoveries with breakthrough technological innovations.

Heura Foods’ ‘York-Style’ plant-powered ham offers a remarkable solution to the growing demand for healthier and sustainable food options. With its high nutritional values, clean labels, and innovative technology, Heura Foods sets a new standard in the industry, paving the way for a plant-based protein revolution.
