Charles Wilson, the former chief executive of Booker Group and the immediate past president of industry charity GroceryAid, has been honored with the title Commander of the British Empire (CBE) for his remarkable contributions to the grocery industry and charitable endeavors. Wilson, who retired from Booker in February after 15 years as chief executive, played a vital role in leading GroceryAid through the challenges posed by the pandemic during his tenure as president in 2020 and 2021.

Starting his career at Procter & Gamble in 1986, Wilson’s professional journey saw him rise to the position of executive director at Marks & Spencer before joining Booker as chief executive in 2005. During his time at Booker, Wilson played a pivotal role in the merger with Tesco in 2018, which led to his appointment as the chief executive of Tesco’s UK and Ireland retail and wholesale operations.

Additionally, on the Honours List are Kuldeep Dhillon and Balbir Kaur, a husband and wife team who operate a Nisa store and post office in Warrington. They have been awarded British Empire Medals (BEM) in recognition of their outstanding community service. Amidst the pandemic, they were part of a team of eight individuals from their Sikh Temple who fundraised to purchase ingredients for nutritious meals to support frontline NHS staff.

In a similar vein, Bishops Cleeve postmistress Jennie Didcote, who dedicated 51 years of her life to working in post offices, has also received a BEM. Throughout her five-decade career, Didcote tirelessly raised funds to assist seriously ill children.
