The Spar Lancashire School Games brought together children from primary, secondary, and special schools in Red Rose County, engaging them in a wide range of sports and activities. From athletics to rugby, cricket to football, and netball to rounders, the students showcased their skills and competitiveness.

Throughout the academic calendar, the Games also emphasized the importance of environmental awareness. Winners were announced for the Spar Lancashire School Games eco-trainer design competition, adding an extra dimension to the event.

Adding to the festivities, Anchorsholme Academy and Millfield Science and Performing Arts College in Blackpool showcased their successful acts during the carnival closing. These talented performers had recently emerged victorious in the Dance Finals held at the renowned Blackpool Opera House.

Organized by Active Lancashire and the School Games Organiser Network, the Lancashire School Games aimed to help young people recover from the effects of the pandemic. Extra support was provided to those who needed it the most.

Since 2006, Spar has been the proud sponsor of the Games through its association with James Hall & Co, the primary wholesaler and distributor for the North of England.

In the 2022-23 edition, the Games successfully engaged 24,000 children across Lancashire. Through 23 feature events and competitions, the participants had opportunities to have fun, develop skills, and achieve personal bests.

Niels Dekkers, retail development and marketing director at James Hall & Co, expressed his admiration for the event: “Year after year, the team at Active Lancashire and the School Games Organiser Network organize a tremendous program of activities and competitions for young people. This year was no different, with a significant number of children benefitting from the event county-wide. It is why we are proud to have sponsored the Games since 2006.”
