The store officially relaunched on Friday 30 June, after undergoing a recent refit. During the day, local shoppers were treated to a fantastic afternoon event, featuring the Spar spinning wheel that gave away 100 goody bags and various prizes such as Spaf shopping vouchers, Rollover hotdog merchandise, F’real merchandise, t-shirts, Barr merchandise, and Swizzels products. Additionally, Stuart’s Bakers provided free product sampling.
To further entice shoppers, the store offered special discounts on a range of Spar own-label and leading branded daily essential food and drink items. Moreover, as part of their commitment to the local community, Spar Scotland made generous donations, including two £500 cheques to Douglas Community Centre and St Pius X Primary School. Furthermore, they donated £800 worth of Spar vouchers to St Pius and Claypotts Primary summer breakfast camps.

The store’s makeover included several notable changes. Firstly, a new counter and back-line were installed, giving the store a fresh appearance. The external fascia and window graphics were also updated, along with new internal local history window graphics and signage. Additionally, the entire store was given a fresh coat of paint. One of the most significant transformations is the newly added CJ’s food-to-go area, located in the revamped entrance area.
Expressing his satisfaction with the renovation, Steven Irons, company-owned stores director at Spar Scotland, stated, “We are really pleased to welcome customers into our newly refurbished SPAR store. We are delighted with how fresh and modern the store looks, offering a core range of products and services that cater specifically to our local shoppers. The new addition of CJ’s food-to-go counter area, we hope, will be a great hit with our customers.”
Employing ten members of the local community, the store remains accessible from 6am to 10pm from Monday to Saturday, and from 7am to 10pm on Sundays.
