Canada’s Commercial Bakeries has strategically acquired local peer Hollandia Bakeries, aimed at enhancing its capabilities within the North American private-label cookie market.
The companies have decided not to disclose the financial terms of this significant transaction.
Based in Mount Brydges, Ontario, the newly combined entity encompasses Hollandia Bakeries and the Good Food Company, specializing in seasonal, soft-baked, and everyday cookie production.
Established in 1954, the organization operates a state-of-the-art baking facility equipped with multiple cookie manufacturing lines and advanced packaging capabilities.
According to Hollandia Bakeries’ website, the 35,000 square-foot plant features two-band ovens, capable of producing 1,587 kg of cookies per hour, totaling up to 1.5 million cookies daily.
Alongside private-label production, Hollandia offers a diverse product lineup of branded cookies including Karleens, Red Label, and Mini Tubs.
In a recent LinkedIn post, Hollandia Bakeries president Dan Simile stated: “We use locally grown and milled non-GMO wheat flour, oats, sugar, local honey, and canola; 90% of our packaging is locally sourced from Canadian Mills.”
Simile emphasized that the acquisition is expected to yield “significant benefits, including increased management support and investment to accelerate our growth trajectory.”
Commercial Bakeries noted that the addition of Hollandia “will unlock additional opportunities for the combined business.”
This acquisition represents Commercial Bakeries’ second strategic deal since being acquired by private-investment firm Graham Partners in September 2023.
Earlier, in May, the company acquired the US company Imagine Baking for an undisclosed sum.
Commercial Bakeries articulated that this latest deal will bolster “the combined business to expand its capabilities and capitalize on the growing trend towards high-quality private-label baked snacks.”
Commercial Bakeries CEO Shawn Warren expressed anticipation about collaborating with Simile and the Hollandia Bakeries team as part of its expanded bakery network.
Focused primarily on premium, better-for-you, and seasonal offerings, Commercial Bakeries primarily serves the retail channel across North America.
